The Tiffany Vault
CHAPTER 13: New I Swear
Fall 1990. The music world has changed. Tiffany and everything 80s have become a pop-culture punchline. Ever determined Tiffany, now 19, releases "New Inside." She tells the press that she wants to "shock" people "in the most positive sense of the word."
It became evident very quickly that "New Inside" wasn't going to take off the way Tiffany hoped. It got positive reactions from listeners at the few stations that added the single -- but after failing to chart, the song disappeared.
The record label wasn't too supportive to say the least. There was no major promotion, no posters, no major articles. Tiffany did tons of TV shows: from "Home" (early am) to Rick Dees (late PM), and toured parts of Europe and Asia, where the album was semi-successful.
Tiffany shared her manager, Dick Scott, with the New Kids. Later her bodyguard and best friend, Frank D'Amato, took on this role.
As war broke out in the Persian Gulf, Tiffany's second single "Here in my Heart" was chosen by the USO as the official song of "Operation Oasis." The song received minor airplay as did the fabulous video (shot in Paris) but a full decade would pass before Tiffany released another single in the USA.
The lack of acceptance was heart-wrenching since Tiffany had put so much on the line with this album.
A 3rd single - Back in the Groove - was released off "New Inside" in Asia.
